That wait was more than worth it as Penn State’s Carter Starocci, a four-time NCAA champion eyeing an unprecedented fifth, took down defending 184-pound champ Parker Keckeisen of Northern Iowa 93 seconds into the sudden victory period to break a 1-1 tie and prevail 4-1.

Five Penn State wrestlers are competing in the 2024 NWCA All-Star Classic. The event does not count in terms of the season record. But, the results will have an impact on the eventual seeding of the NCAA Tournament later this year.

In last year’s National Wrestling Coaches Association’s All-Star Classic, Penn State was a combined 4-1. The results were the same in Saturday night’s edition of the All-Star Classic, but with one difference.

STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (11/16/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team had its premier wrestler, Jore Volk, competing in a showcase event Saturday night at Rec Hall. And under the bright lights of the NWCA All-Star Classic, with ‘WYO’ proudly displayed on the front of his singlet, No. 2 Volk shined.

The event will be held at Rec Hall Saturday, the day before the Nittany Lions officially begin their season against Drexel.
